Meet Shem Creek's newest resident:

Sunny the Duck

legend has it...

Once just a small rubber duck, Sunny's journey to our front porch began long ago when he was accidentally dropped into Shem Creek from the hands of a child crossing over the Mount Pleasant pedestrian bridge. Hands slick with sunscreen, and trying hard to keep up with his family, legend has it Sunny slipped loose from his hands and tumbled into the water.

But something magical happened when Sunny went under, he grew in size and stature- becoming the Sunny he was always meant to be. He had found his place and fulfilled his destiny. Sunny spent his days riding on the backs of Shem Creek dolphins, making wake for kayakers and paddle boarders looking for adventure, and using his newfound strength to help out local boaters who ran aground.

After decades living among the locals and his dolphin posse on Shem Creek, Sunny’s life came full circle. He was floating down the waterway one afternoon when he spotted a familiar face - it was Andrew, the young boy who had accidentally dropped Sunny from the bridge all those years ago. He was standing on the dock of Sunsets, and with open arms Andrew scooped Sunny up and brought him ashore. He fed him boatloads of sushi, po-boys galore, and plenty of cocktails, too. As luck would have it, Sunny and Andrew were united again! And since that moment, Sunny hasn’t left our front porch.

When no one is around, Sunny still goes for a swim in the wee morning hours or rides atop a dolphin once in a blue moon, but he always makes his way back to our front door. Sunny’s story is one of destiny and luck, and, rumor has it, all who stop to rub his bill walk away with a little luck too!
